it depends on what page you are looking at.

look at the downloads of the first item at https://archive.org/search.php?query=librivox%20read%20in%20English%20by%20Expatriate. it shows 3,061 downloads. then go to the item page at https://archive.org/details/spiritualart_1310_librivox . it shows 3,129.

download count on the search results pages are only updated about once per month. the counts on the item page are update daily.

OK, thanks. I'll try that.

I had been checking it exactly the same way for a couple of years, on almost a daily basis, so I still have no idea why that just stopped working a couple of weeks ago; the search method was the page I checked, and it was updated at least once a day. So I had come to rely on it.

But I'll try this.

I seen what you're saying. When I check the Item page, it shows a different download count than the Search page. Obviously the downside of this is that I would have to check all 58 individual Item pages, and it would be incredibly tedious/almost impossible to be able to compare the results of one item against another, at least in the mere moments I have each morning to check such things.

The nice thing about the DAILY updates of the search results page until a couple of weeks ago (tried and tested daily for many months, even years) is that I could see the progress of all 58 of my recordings with one click, AND make comparisons. AND check the next morning to see the new results. It's become an old habit of mine, NOT once a month but EVERY DAY.

There's not much point even in checking my information with this new, cumbersome situation. There must have been some policy change, or maybe a tech glitch somewhere. I guess there's no solution.

Does anyone know any other way to follow the progress of your LibriVox recordings?

JEFF! It's disappointing, but I do appreciate your responses. Thanks....

the search results page has always been recalculated on a monthly basis.

No, actually, I've had the same Search page bookmarked for many many months, and check it every morning over breakfast. Daily updates, with new recordings on the page within a day. Always. I would testify to this in court. We must be talking about two different things. No problem, Jeff. Not sure what Search page you're referring to, but it's obviously not the one I'm talking about.

The fact is, I long ago bookmarked the Search page "librivox read in English by Expatriate" and have checked this exact bookmarked page and observed daily updates for many months. New recordings, in fact, have often shown up on that page even before I got the notification from LibriVox that they had been catalogued. Remarkable efficiency, however it's done.

This is beyond dispute or debate. I'm talking about literally having observed daily or near-daily updates HUNDREDS of times; NEVER has it been monthly in my experience, or even close to it. To have a useful forum discussion, it's best to know the facts.

Obviously we're talking about two different things. The Search page to which I refer has consistently updated at least once and often more than once per day. Until about two weeks ago. Since then, it has neither updated older recordings nor even added my newest during that period of time.

So possibly there has been a technical problem. Possibly an IA policy change. Possibly an issue in my own laptop. Possibly layoffs or personnel cutbacks. But it's only helpful in a forum if people know the facts: the Search page has always updated at least daily (though I have observed an occasional delay over a weekend), and now it doesn't.

Hopefully someone will have some useful information. Internet Archive is an awesome resource to which I refer literally many times a day either for my own or a student's research. This is a relatively minor issue affecting only my convenience, not terribly important in the Big Picture. But it would be nice to know if it can be fixed.

Thanks to anyone who can help! And thanks for your efforts, Jeff.

I also used it to see what was popular in OTR and Community Video. I am certain the list changed at least once a week. I did not check it every day. It was interesting to see how peoples interests changed.
This may be completely unrelated but the data collection on User Exit Satisfaction has either dropped to nothing or frustrated users have given up trying to exit.
Is it possible that everyone suddenly became pleased with the changes and stopped exiting? Or does the fact that often you cannot exit no matter how many times you click EXIT have something to do with it?

Thanks for your response, R Pal. Nice to have someone respond who didn't just condescendingly say, "No, what you say happened didn't really happen." I don't participate in forums/chats/comments enough ever to get used to the trolls....

I haven't been able to find out an answer to my question, but I appreciate your response. Guess I'll never find out why things changed so abruptly a couple of weeks ago; my search page is still unresponsive after all those months of consistent helpfulness. But it's not a huge problem, and I will go on appreciating the great resource that is Internet Archive.

Thanks again....

Is the problem mentioned by this posting the same issue that you are encountering? Perhaps your question will be answered in that thread.

And think of the trolls as bad comedy writers or the guys that yell things as they drive by. Their gone in a while.

Been tipped off by someone on a Librivox forum that if you Favorite all your recordings on your account, those results are updated at least nearly daily, just like the Search results page USED to be. I've tried it. It's cumbersome, and not as nice as the simple Search check was before six weeks ago, but doable. Must be some monstrous technological reason why, though the items seem to be identical to those you get on the Search page, the view numbers can't be updated the same way, the same way they were daily updated before mid-May. Beyond my expertise.

Thanks to everyone for helping to resolve things as well as they're going to get resolved....

Do you mind posting a link to the Librivox Forum? Audio books have become a strong need for some of my family.

It seems as if the BETA can be almost as good as the original if you jump through four brightly colored and size changing hoops. If only I could see the benefits.

I was clearly wrong about this suggestion, as although the download numbers did correspond with the individual item downloads when I first made the Favorites page they have not moved since, although the indvidual item downloads have increased.

The Internet Archive has had time to put all the improvements into place.

How is it now?

The experience reported by Katahdin87 is accurate for me as well - the view counts on the search page, as well as on My Library, My Favorites, etc., did update regularly until a few weeks ago.

Jeff's response that the search results view counts have always been coded to update monthly does not accord with my experience.

Even if this were the case, that doesn't imply that it *should* be the case. As others have stated in this thread, regular download updates at the list level are far more user friendly than having to drill down to item level every time.
